Mr. John Doyle Powell, 86, of Waynesboro, Mississippi, died September 1, 2021, at his home. Mr. Powell was born near Baxterville, Mississippi, in Lamar County on July 8, 1935.
He was a retired 20-year veteran of the United States Air Force, having served in the Korean War and Vietnam War. After retirement from the Air Force, Mr. Powell worked for a time in the Oklahoma City Police Department and then worked several years as a pilot, based in Warner Robins, Georgia, for Zantop Airlines, a cargo airline, delivering auto parts to manufacturers and also delivering spare parts to military bases in the U.S. He was a Mason in the Tyrian Masonic Lodge #111 in Warner Robins, Georgia, and a Shriner in Al Sihah Shrine of Macon, Georgia.
Mr. Powell was preceded in death by his wife, Janie Trammel; parents, Adolph Powell and Floy Oswalt Powell; five brothers – Gary Powell, Louie Powell, W.N. 'Pat' Powell, Johnny Powell, and Wayne Powell, and three sisters - Vivian Beamon, Jimmie Ruth Rayburn, and Anne Griffith. He is survived by a sister, Nina Faye 'Tiny' Reihing, of Perrysburg, Ohio, ten nieces, and six nephews.
