Mamie Joyce (Waite) Koen

Mrs. Mamie Joyce Koen, 81, of Millry, AL passed from this life Saturday, July 27, 2024 at Washington County Nursing Home in Chatom, AL surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Washington County, AL on Wednesday, April 28, 1943 to James Pearson Waite and Mamie Lee Waite.

 Mrs. Koen loved God and her family. She was a prayer warrior to everyone that knew her. People would travel from neighboring counties to visit with her for prayer and comfort. Her love and connection to God was seen each time you saw her and was shown throughout her daily life. She spent many years as Co-Owner and Operator of Koen's Grocery where she was able to witness to so many of the store's patrons.

 She traveled with her husband pastoring several churches throughout the years including their last church, Magnolia Holiness in McIntosh, Alabama before they finally retired and started attending their home church, Independent Community Church in Millry, Alabama when she was able.

 Mrs. Koen is preceded in death by her father, James Pearson Waite; mother, Mamie Lee Waite; siblings, J. B. Waite, Johnny Waite, Mary Beth Waite, James Lee Waite, Shirley Tate, Norman Waite. She is survived by her husband of 63 Years, Rev. Oliver Koen, Jr.; daughter, Deborah Ann Koen Gardner (Dale), Millry, AL; son, James Sidney "Jim" Koen (Menyonette), Millry, AL; daughter, Betty Joyce Koen Brackin (Butch), Leroy, AL; son, Oliver Lewis Koen (Beverly), Millry, AL; daughter, Angela Dawn Koen Atchison, Millry, AL; 9 grandchildren, Keith Mosley (Jennifer), Lynette Beasley (Ray), Broc Koen (Jessica), Tanner Atchison (Mikayla), Tristin Koen (Meagan), Ashtyn Becton (Adam), Brooke Gray (Brandan), Ambreea Koen, Allie Atchison; 2 step grandchildren, Eric Brackin (Chastity), Jonathan Brackin (Rhiannon); 8 great grandchildren; 2 step great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Truman Waite (Frances), Mike Waite; sister, Ciddie Lee Jones (Paul), Edna Beesley; sister-in-law, Kathy Waite, all of Millry, AL.

 Visitation for Mrs. Koen will be held from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, Monday, July 29, 2024 at Independent Community Church, Millry, AL. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, July 29, 2024 at Independent Community Church in Millry, AL with Rev. Joe Sullivan, Rev. Mark Guy, and Rev. Justin Allen officiating. Interment will be in Shady Grove Cemetery in Millry, AL. Pallbearers are Paul Dean Jones, Seth Waite, Randal Waite, Johnny Waite, Jimmy Waite, Carl Hooper, Dale Jones.
