Mr. Jimmy Neal Bowen, 84, of Waynesboro, MS passed from this life Thursday, September 21, 2023 at Wayne General Hospital in Waynesboro, MS. He was born on Friday, September 15, 1939 to Jesse Carroll Bowen and Rosa Lee Thornton Bowen. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Church of Christ. Jimmy joined the United States Navy in 1961. He obtained the classification of Hospital Corpsman the same year. He served abroad several ships including the USS Boxer (LHD-4) during the Cuban Crises in the early 60's. Later he served abroad the USS Bushnell (AS-15) in Key West, FL. After his discharge in 1967, he attended Jones County Junior College Nursing School and obtained his Registered Nurse degree. He attended the School of Anesthesia Charity Hospital in New Orleans and was awarded the degree of Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. He worked at several hospitals, including H. C. Watkins and he retired from Wayne General Hospital. Mr. Bowen is preceded in death by his son, Marcus Howard Bowen (age 13); daughter, Jill Maria Bowen (age 9); father, Jesse Carroll Bowen; mother, Rosa Lee Thornton Bowen. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Linda Cantrell Bowen; brother-in-law, Mr. Ray Cantrell; two cousins, Una Faye Pitts, Ovett, MS, Barbara Jean Bompressi. A visitation for Mr. Bowen will be held from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, Saturday, October 21, 2023 at Freeman Funeral Home,1305 Skyland Drive, Waynesboro, MS. A Memorial Graveside Service will be held at 3:30 PM, Saturday, October 21,2023 at Serenity Gardens Cemetery in Waynesboro, MS. In lieu of flowers a tree can be planted in his memory or donations can be made to a charity of choice.
