James LeRoy “Roy” Felts passed away at Hospice of West Alabama on January 29, 2020. Roy was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Felts, and his parents, Preston Felts and Esula Felts. He is survived by his brother, Lavon Felts of Richton, Mississippi; sister, Retha Stutie of Lawrenceville, Georgia; sister-in-law, Bobbye Watson of Ecclectic, Alabama; two daughters, Sheri Bowen (Dale) of Waynesboro, Mississippi and Tracy Johnson (Mark) of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; five grandchildren, Penni Cooper (Devin), Jenci Baygents (Gordon), Lexi Taylor (Chase), Sam Johnson and Brooke Johnson; 6 great-grandchildren Beau and Sadie Cooper, Cannon and Clayton Baygents, Willow and Wyatt Taylor.
Roy retired from the Mississippi National Guard after a 40 year career. He served during the Korean Conflict and was also a proud Veteran of Desert Storm. He was the best husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. The words we hear over and over about our dad are, “He was such a good man.” He was that and more to his family and will be missed by all who knew him.
Funeral services will be held at Freeman Funeral Home at 3:00 PM on February 1, 2020 with visitation from 1-3 PM prior to the service. Interment will be held in Serenity Gardens Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Chris Dukes, John Mark Clark, Donald Dearman, Billy Bynum, Chuck Hardee, Lonnie Sanderson. Honorary pallbearers will be Scott Walters, Mike Stevens and former members of the Waynesboro unit of the Mississippi Army National Guard.
