Harry Gilbert "Gil" McIlwain, III

Harry Gilbert “Gil” McIlwain, III, 62, of Weatherford, Texas, formerly of Waynesboro, Mississippi, passed away early Tuesday, October 27,2020, at his home in Weatherford. 

Visitation was held from 6 PM until 9 PM, Thursday evening, October 29, 2020, at the Galbreaith-Pickard Funeral Chapel, 913 N. Elm Street, in Weatherford, Texas. Visitation will be held 5 PM to 9 PM, Sunday, November 1, 2020 at Freeman Funeral Home in Waynesboro, Mississippi. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, November 2, 2020 at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, 2 Jones Walker Loop Road, Waynesboro, Mississippi. There will be a Lie-In-State from 12-2 PM Monday at the church. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery. 

Gil was born on July 26, 1958 in Waynesboro, Mississippi, to Harry Gilbert “HG”, Jr., and Kameko “Jeanie” McIlwain. He married Marsha Conaway on September 19, 2004. Gil worked in the Oil and Gas industry for over 36 years. The last 26 years of his career he worked for Shell Oil Company. He was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church in Waynesboro, Mississippi. He enjoyed outdoor activities including fishing, boating, and camping. Gil also took pride in restoring vintage cars. He spent much time watching news and political events on television. Most of all, Gil will be remembered for his devotion to his family – particularly his children and grandchildren – and his beloved pet dogs and cats.  

Gil was preceded in death by his parents, HG and Jeanie McIlwain; brothers, Bill McIlwain and infant brother McIlwain; and step-daughter, Krista Lathram.

Gil is survived by his wife, Marsha; his daughters, KyLeigh McIlwain Odom and Kasha (David) Hughes; his grandchildren, Sydney, Gavin, Parker, Heidi, and Alex; step-daughter, Heather Brown; step-son, Kyle Lathram; and by his step-grandchildren, Allison, Chris, Brooklyn, Kash, Kyler, Lauren, and Jaley; sister-in-law, Karen McIlwain; nieces, Kristen (Stephen) Ladner, and Erika (Gregory) Smith; and nephews, Kevin (Rebekah) McIlwain and Devin McIlwain.
