Mr. Gene Kelley, 90, of Waynesboro, MS passed from this life Monday, August 21, 2023, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Waynesboro, MS on Tuesday, November 22, 1932, to the late David and Belvie Kelley.
He was a member of Waynesboro First Baptist Church. He retired in 1991, as a co-owner and operator of Kelley Brothers Contractors, Inc. He was a member and past president of the Wayne County Chapter of the Hamasa Shriners. He was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, and cooking for friends and family. Mr. Kelley was known by all that knew him as a hard worker and was a man of his word. He set a high standard for himself, and he expected no less from others.
Mr. Kelley is preceded in death by his parents, David and Belvie Kelley; three brothers, Rick Kelley, Ed Kelley, T. O. Kelley; two sisters, Clara Lou Pitts, Mildred Jones; two grandsons, Phillip Lindsey, Myles Kelley. He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Sue Kelley of Waynesboro, MS; two sons, Kelley Kelley of Buckatunna, MS, Greg Kelley (Wendy) of Waynesboro, MS; daughter, Belinda Gibson (Truman) of Lexington, SC; step son, Brent Barry (Dana) of Sumrall, MS; step daughter, Dr. Lauren Barry (Dr. Todd Versteegh) of Jackson, MS; two Sisters-In-Law, Nellie Kelley, Bessie Kelley of Waynesboro, MS; seven grandchildren, Harrison, Matthew, Caden Luke, Chase, Connor, Jasmine, Gatlin; three great grandchildren, McKenzie, Jacob, Jaxon; six step grandchildren, Faith, Camryn, Blake, Will, Betty, Ben; a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation for Mr. Kelley will be held from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 26, 2023, at Waynesboro First Baptist Church in Waynesboro, MS. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, August 26, 2023, at Waynesboro First Baptist Church in Waynesboro, MS with Dr. Steve Smith officiating. Interment will be in Serenity Gardens Cemetery in Waynesboro, MS. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Waynesboro First Baptist Church.
