Erin Elizabeth Knight

Erin Elizabeth Knight of Chicora, MS, left this earth and went to be with Jesus on April 12, 2021.  Erin was 24 years of age and was born on August 11, 1996.  Erin loved her family, her friends, and her animals, but she especially treasured her mom and dad, her big sister, her sweet niece, and her loving fiancé.  Despite a life-limiting diagnosis of cystic fibrosis at 8 months of age, Erin lived a full life.  Erin spent much of her time at the hospital and became close to the myriad of doctors, nurses, therapists, and other hospital workers who helped to take care of her.  Erin loved her community, her church family, and the administrators, faculty, and staff of the Wayne County School District who loved, supported, and prayed for Erin throughout her life.  Erin participated in clubs and activities at school and college where she received numerous academic and service scholarships to help continue her education.  At fourteen years of age, Erin received a double lung transplant.  This gift of life allowed her to defy the odds.  She graduated high school, obtained an associate’s degree in health, worked as a pharmacy technician, and became engaged to the love of her life.  Erin inspired others with her bravery, her strength, her kindness, and her tenacity.   Erin’s story encourages others to face adversity with a determination to survive and to overcome.  Organ donation allowed Erin to enjoy an additional 10 years of life, so in honor of Erin’s memory please consider becoming an organ donor.  Thank you once again to Matthew, Erin’s lung donor.  

Erin is survived by her mother and father, Michael & Stephanie Knight of Chicora, MS; her sister, Casey Knight of Gulfport, MS; her niece, Rae Edwards of Gulfport, MS; her fiancé, Alex Douglas of Laurel, MS; her maternal grandparents, James & Daisy Mills of Chicora, MS; her paternal grandparents, Jimmy & Patricia Knight of Waynesboro; her aunts and uncles, Russell Mills of Dallas, TX; Donna Rials of Seymour, TN; Chris (Ginger) Knight of Berry, AL; cousins, Thomas Dunnam of Tuscaloosa, AL; Tyler, Kayela and Elizabeth Knight of Berry, AL; Kristen Rials of Seymour, TN; Nicholas Knight (Becky) of Waynesboro, MS. 

Visitation for  Erin will be held from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, Friday, April 16, 2021 at Freeman Funeral Home, 1305 Skyland Drive, Waynesboro, MS. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, April 17, 2021 at Calvary Baptist Church in Waynesboro, MS with Rev. Paul Harris, Rev. Michael Stevenson and Rev. Adam Walley officiating. Interment will be in Mills Cemetery on Chicora River Road. Pallbearers are Mike Stevens, Tyler Knight, Thomas Dunnam, Pat Douglas, Russell Mills, Chris Knight, Brandon Stevens, Matthew Stevens, David Diego Hernandez and Mason Blakeney.
