Mrs. Edna "Merle" Street LeRay, 86, of Waynesboro, MS passed away on Tuesday, May 4, 2021 in her home surrounded by her loved ones. Merle completed her journey on this earth and was called to her heavenly home after battling lung cancer. She was born in Wayne County, MS on Friday, February 18, 1935 to Lucius Ray Street and Willie Dee Glass Street.
She was a member of Trinity First Baptist Church where she dearly loved the ladies in her Sunday School class. Merle enjoyed cooking meals for her family, especially her chicken and dumplings, shrimp gumbo, and baking. She also enjoyed reading recipe books, sewing, and gardening although being able to spend time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren brought her the greatest joy.
Merle was preceded in death by her parents, Lucius Ray and Willie Dee Glass Street; daughter, Sandra Jean Parnell Scogins; brother, Bobby Street.
She is survived by her daughter, Chyrle Sue Parnell, Warren, AR; two sons, Bobby G. Parnell, Jr. (Lisa), Laurel, MS, Robby LeRay, Waynesboro, MS; Son-In-Law, Jackie Scogins, Monticello, AR; eight grandchildren, Scott Harton, William Harton, Bobby Harton, Tobey Decker, Brandon Crouch, Joey Giandelone, Kynsleigh Parnell, Logan LeRay; ten great grandchildren; three brothers, Joe Street (Billie), Winston Street (Wanda), Clark Street (Myra); one sister, Jean Dunn; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation for Merle will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, Friday, May 7, 2021 at Trinity First Baptist Church in Waynesboro, MS. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, May 7, 2021 at Trinity First Baptist Church in Waynesboro, MS with Rev. Ken Harrison and Rev. William Harton officiating. Interment will be in Trinity First Baptist Cemetery in Wayne County, MS. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. A special Thank You to the support shown by Deaconess Hospice and the nursing care provided by Ashli Palmer and Pearl Jones.
