Betty Gilbert Ramey

Mrs. Betty Gilbert Ramey, 78, of Waynesboro, MS passed away peacefully from this life Monday, January 18, 2021 at her home in Waynesboro, MS surrounded by her loving family. She had a lengthy battle with a blood disorder that progressed to leukemia. She was born in Waynesboro, MS on Friday, January 1, 1943 to Colin Orlandus Gilbert and Ethel Estelle Jordan Gilbert. She was the wife of Herbert E. Ramey, Jr., longtime owner of Ramey's grocery store chain. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Waynesboro. She was a loving mother who will be dearly missed. Her wisdom and guidance were unmatched and, to her credit, almost 100 percent on point all the time. Mrs. Ramey is preceded in death by her oldest son, Gilbert Brian Ramey; parents, Colin Orlandus Gilbert and Ethel Estelle Jordan Gilbert; three brother, Franklin Gilbert, Wendell Gilbert, and George Gilbert; sister, Alida Gilbert Lodge. She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Herbert E. Ramey, Jr., Waynesboro, MS; daughter, Kimberly Ruth Ramey Ford and spouse, Michael Alan Ford of Waynesboro, MS; son, Herbert Bradford Ramey and spouse, Charlene Kittrell Ramey of Purvis, MS; daughter, Heather Ramey Haley, M.D. and spouse, Christopher Lee Haley of Fairhope, AL; nine grandchildren, Herbert Taylor Ramey and spouse, Kristen Fortenberry Ramey, Nathan Ramey Ford, Charles Bradford Ramey and spouse, Laken Lowery Ramey, Holly Gilbert Ford, Maggie Ann Ford, John Patrick Haley, IV, Samuel Gilbert Haley, Lily Elizabeth Ramey, and Ramey Elizabeth Haley; one great grandchild, Charlie Kate Ramey. Graveside Services for Mrs. Ramey will be held at 3:00 PM Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at Serenity Gardens Cemetery in Waynesboro, MS with Dr. Steve Smith and Rev. DeJuan Walley officiating. A memorial register book for Mrs. Ramey will be available to sign at Freeman Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 20, 2021 from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the First Baptist Church of Waynesboro.
