Zella (Mills) Singleterry's Obituary

Mrs. Zella Wayne Mills Singleterry passed peacefully of natural causes on Friday, November 26, 2021 at age 84. She was born and raised in Clara, MS and although she left for many years to start a family with the love of her life, Dennis R. Singleterry, they eventually settled in Huntsville, AL where they lived for over 20 years. However, Clara was "Home" and she never forgot about where she came from. She was athletic and played basketball for Clara School. Mrs. Zella graduated from Athens State University with a Bachelor of Science in Education and went on to obtain her Master of Education from Alabama A&M University. She spent her career as a K – 6 educator and adored the children that she had the opportunity to teach. Her passions included quilting, gardening, reading, cooking, spending time with her children and grandchildren, and cheering on her favorite football teams, Alabama and Mississippi State. She spent a large portion of her life in Huntsville, AL where she and Dennis raised their children. After Dennis passed, she retired to Clara where she spent time nurturing her grandchildren. In retirement, she continued doing the things she enjoyed including traveling with her children and grandchildren. But her greatest joy was simply enjoying an afternoon conversation with friends and family whom she cared for deeply. She was a devoted wife and mother and cherished her three children and seven grandchildren. She lived her life to the fullest, and her love, laughter, smile, and faith brightened our lives and continues on within us. She is preceded in death by her husband, Dennis R. Singleterry, her mother, Gertrude Mills, and her father, Adolphus Mills. She is survived by her sister, Shirley Weaver; two brothers, Jack Mills (Betty), Dave Mills (Sue); two sons, Dennis Singleterry (Paula), Clara, MS, Dana Singleterry (Shannon), Atlanta, GA; one daughter, Tacy Junker (Jim), Houston, TX; seven grandchildren, Denny (Regan), Alyssa, Mollie, Ayda, Rafe, William, and Hayes. Visitation for Mrs. Zella will be held from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM Saturday, December 4, 2021 at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 401 Mississippi Drive, Waynesboro, MS. Funeral Services for the family and close friends will begin at 11:30 AM Saturday, December 4, 2021 at St. Bernadette Catholic Church with Father Marcin S.
