Rev. William R. Mills, 92, of Clara, MS passed from this life Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Waynesboro, MS on Sunday, May 10, 1931, to the late Herman E. and Myrtle Mills. Rev. Mills served in the United States Army and was a Veteran of the Korean Conflict. He retired from Clara First Church of God where he served as pastor for 50 years and was a long-time member. He loved doing mission work nationally and internationally. He made 28 trips to the Philippines where he helped develop a school for the deaf, and he made many trips to Mexico where he helped build many churches. He was instrumental in the development of Pine Belt Mental Health in Wayne County where he served on the board of directors for many years. He loved his family and was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Rev. Mills is preceded in death by his parents, Herman E. and Myrtle Mills; stepmother, Willie Mills; two brothers, Edgar Mills, Chris Mills; two sisters, Bobbie Nell Dickerson, Ilene Fairley; granddaughter, Jennifer Romijn. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 70 years, Sis. Bernice Mills; two sons, Freddie Mills (Carla), Marlon Walley (Imogene); two daughters, Sharry Muscat (Vince), Cecelia Mills, all of Clara, MS; brother, Stanley Herman Mills (Charlotte) of Lucedale, MS; four grandchildren, Chris Muscat (Christina), Lakisha West (Robert), Brandi Freeman (Dustin), Brianna Smith (Kaleb); 10 great grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews. Visitation for Rev. Mills will be held from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Thursday, December 14, 2023, at Freeman Funeral Home, 1305 Skyland Drive, Waynesboro, MS. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, December 15, 2023, at Clara First Church of God, 214 Big Creek Road, Waynesboro, MS with Dr. Steve Smith, Rev. Warren Slay, and Rev. Chris Cooper officiating. Interment will be in White House Cemetery in Waynesboro, MS.
