Mr. William McCall "Bill" Toomey, Jr., 91, of Fruitdale, AL passed from this life Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at Washington County Nursing Home in Chatom, AL. He was born in Aquilla, AL on Sunday, January 14, 1934, to the late William McCall Toomey, Sr. and Marjorie Edwards Toomey. He was a member of Aquilla Methodist Church in his earlier life and had a deep love and dedication for that church and community. He became a resident of Fruitdale, AL in 1958 and joined the Fruitdale United Methodist Church, later called Fruitdale Union Chapel where he served as secretary and treasurer for many years. Bill's first five years of education was at the "One Teacher" for all grades Aquilla Elementary School. He walked 1 1/4 miles back and forth to school. Beginning in the sixth grade he attended school and graduated from Southern Choctaw High School in 1952. He then attended the Forest Ranger School of the University of Florida. At the ranger school graduation, he was hired by International Paper Company and had a successful career as a Forester for 43 years. He was the first 2PCO Forester to plant Longleaf Pine in this area. Bill is preceded in death by his parents, William McCall Toomey, Sr. and Marjorie Edwards Toomey; grandparents, Oscar and Lena Toomey and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Edwards; his precious daughter, Cheryl Ann Toomey who was killed in an automobile accident at the age of 19 in 1979. He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Myrtle Ann Toomey; sister, Mary Margaret Moyles; special friends, Mike Savage (Sheila) and Russell Hendrix; a host of cousins and friends. Visitation for Mr. Toomey will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, Friday, September 26, 2025, at Freeman Funeral Home, 1305 Skyland Drive, Waynesboro, MS. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, September 26, 2025, at Freeman Funeral Home in Waynesboro, MS with Rev. Fred Toomey and Rev. Tommy Gaillard officiating. Interment will be in Grace Williams Cemetery in Fruitdale, AL. Pallbearers are Mike Savage, L.C. Pittman, Jr. Bedwell, Tommy Becton, Bob Nelson, and Thad Becton. Honorary Pallbearers are Russell Hendrix, Willie Williams, Clarence Miller, Pod Price, O.M. Becton, Bob Douglas, Bonny Ray Overstreet, Robert Hartley, and David Johnson.
