Shirley Russell Henderson, 91, a long-time resident of Waynesboro, Mississippi, died on Wednesday, the 5th of June, 2024, at Brookwood Villa Personal Care Home, where she received wonderful care. It was her home away from home for many years. Shirley was born on March 28, 1933, in Holly Springs, Mississippi, and was adopted into the loving home of Mamie and Clyde Russell. She married the love of her life, Jerry Henderson, and they had two children, Pam and Rusty.

Shirley was a breeder and exhibitor of show dogs with her son. She had a lovely voice and gave many vocal solos. She loved her church, her family, Christmas, dogs, and singing. Shirley was a long-standing member of First Baptist Church of Waynesboro. After her husband passed away, she was blessed to be offered the position of Director of the Kindergarten and Day Care there, which she accepted and enjoyed for several years. She taught for many, many years in Preschool Sunday School and was also the director of Preschool Sunday School. She was affectionately called "Miss Shirley," a title she adored. Shirley loved her Lord and Savior and often spoke of His goodness towards her. One of her last quotes was, "God is so good to me. He's been good to me for so long."

Mrs. Henderson was preceded in death by her father, Clyde Russell; her mother, Mamie Russell; her husband, Jerry Henderson; her son, Rusty Henderson; and her brothers, Sonny Whittington and Bobby Bond. She is survived by her daughter, Pam Hicks of Pooler, GA; her grandsons, George Hicks (Shannon) of Pooler, GA, Russell Henderson of Millry, AL, Clark Henderson of Niceville, FL, Jerry Hicks (Jennipher) of Indianapolis, IN, and Micah Hicks of Huntington Beach, CA; her granddaughter, Christal Nguyen (Tony) of Pensacola, FL; her great-grandsons and great-granddaughters, Garrett Henderson (Erica), Hannah Henderson, Dalten Henderson, Sydney Nguyen, Noah Nguyen, Sophie Henderson, Wyatt Henderson, Olivia Henderson, Izzy Smith, Gillian Hicks, and Jordyn Hicks; and her great-great-grandson, Swade Henderson.

Visitation for Mrs. Henderson will be held from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at Freeman Funeral Home in Waynesboro, MS, followed by a Memorial Service at 2:00 PM officiated by Dr. Steve Smith. Interment will be in Waynesboro Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Brother Wayne Meeks, Sharpie Smith, Jerry Mosley, Ricky Dabbs, John Mark Clark, and Don Williams.
