Mr. Roderick L. Smith, 77, of Buckatunna, MS passed from this life Saturday, February 18, 2023 at Wayne General Hospital surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was born in Perry County, MS on Friday, May 18, 1945 to Elisha Roosevelt Smith and Annie Smith. Mr. Rod served in the United States Air Force and retired as Master Sergeant with over 20 years of service. He also retired as a Truck Driver. Mr. Rod is preceded in death by his father, Elisha Roosevelt Smith and mother, Annie Smith; brother, Wilford Smith. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Arlene J. Smith, Buckatunna, MS; son, Billy Joe Smith (Marie), Myrick, MS; daughter, Ava Beasley (Stacey), Buckatunna, MS; 3 sisters, Carlene Russ, Mobile, AL, Marcy Webb (Ricky), Waynesboro, MS, Rhonda Hayes, State Line, MS; brother, Hugh Smith, State Line, MS; 3 grandchildren, Slade Smith (Maddy), Laurel, MS, Gage Smith, Laurel, MS, Ashtin Stevens (Colby), Buckatunna, MS; 3 great grandchildren, Reid Smith, Ridge Stevens, Gracie Smith. Visitation for Mr. Rod will be held from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, Monday, February 20, 2023 at Freeman Funeral Home, 1305 Skyland Drive, Waynesboro, MS. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at Freeman Funeral Home with Rev. Mitchell Smith officiating. Pallbearers are Hugh Smith, Phillip Brewer, Slade Smith, Gage Smith, Spike Webb, Kelly Thornton. Honorary Pallbearers are Josh Beasley and Jerry Ball. Interment will be in Chason Cemetery in Buckatunna.
