Mrs. Nellie Ruth "Nell" Henderson, 83, of Fruitdale, AL passed from this life Monday, July 3, 2023 at her residence. She was born in Fruitdale, AL on Thursday, February 8, 1940 to the late Herman and Ruth Williams.

She attended Fruitdale High School and graduated from State Line High School where she met the love of her life, Nathan Leonard "Bill" Henderson. Bill and Nellie were married on February 20, 1959. They lived in and ran the Fruitdale Grocery store in "downtown Fruitdale". They had two sons, Billy Harold and Anthony Scott. With Bill's support, Nellie was able to survive Ovarian Cancer and receive the treatments necessary to ensure no recurrence of this cancer. Upon Bill's passing in 1975, Nellie became a single Mom of two young boys. After selling the store to the Conway Twitty family, she put herself through nursing school at Hobson State Technical College and began her nursing career. She Later returned to Jones County Junior College where she received her Registered Nursing degree. Nellie has worked in several hospitals, nursing homes, and with home health throughout her career. She loved taking care of people, even after her retirement at age 67, she returned to the work force part-time and continued to care for patients. It was with great sadness she fully retired at age 72. Of all the positions she has held her favorite was working with the home health patients. Throughout her life, Nellie Believed in Christ and with his goodness and mercy was able to do all these things.  She was a member of State Line Baptist Church. In 2019, Nellie was diagnosed with bladder cancer and fought this disease with everything she had left in her. Unfortunately, this disease is one without a cure.

Mrs. Henderson is preceded in death by her husband, Nathan Leonard Henderson; parents, Herman and Ruth Williams; three Sisters-In-Law, Ellen Williams, Jean Young Sellers, Chris Young Roberts; four Brothers-In-Law, Johnny Joe Gardner, Bill Morrow, John Young, Prince Roberts.

Her beautiful life will be forever cherished in the lives of her two sons, Billy Henderson (Karen) of Chatom, AL, Scotty Henderson (Pam) of Fruitdale, AL; two brothers, Herman Delmar Williams of Leroy, AL, Harold Williams (Jean) of Fruitdale, AL; sister, Dinah Gardner Morrow of Fruitdale, AL; three grandchildren, Tara Henderson (Patrick) of Vinegar Bend, AL, A J Henderson (Susan) of Satsuma, AL, Samantha Denmark (Dakota) of Saraland, AL; three great grandchildren, Keri Henderson, Ainsley Kate Walley, Asher Henderson; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation for Mrs. Henderson will be held from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, Wednesday, July 5, 2023 at Freeman Funeral Home, 1305 Skyland Drive, Waynesboro, MS. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, July 5, 2023 at Freeman Funeral Home in Waynesboro, MS with Rev. Michael Stevenson officiating. Interment will be in Grace Williams Cemetery in Fruitdale, AL.
