Rev. Marshall D. Walters's Obituary

Rev. Marshall Dean Walters was born on August 20, 1942 and gained his eternal reward on January 7, 2025. Rev. Walters pastored several Free Will Baptist churches over the years including Bethel, Thompson Creek, County Line, and Lovewell. He was also a longtime member of Corinth Free Will Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel Paul and Elma Catherine Wedgeworth Walters; his first wife, Joyce Conway Walters and son Fred Marshall Walters, 1969; his second wife, Nona Gray Henderson Walters, 1981; one brother, James Daniel "J. D." Walters; and three sisters, Pauline "Polly" Carpenter, Irma Harvison, and Peggy McAlister.

He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Gary Marshall and Marcie Walters; one granddaughter, Kelsie Sullivan (Aaron), who brought years of love and joy to his life and many times of eating bacon and playing Uncle Wiggly together; one sister, Gloria Smith (Bill) of South Carolina; two brothers, Billy Walters (Sally) of West Virginia and Carl Walters (Sue) of Mississippi; two brothers-in-law, Charles Henderson (Virginia) and Frank Henderson; and his personal sitter of 4 years, Deborah Nicholson.

Marshall accepted the call to preach at the age of 19 and started pastoring shortly after. Rev. Walters pastored several Free Will Baptist churches over the years including Bethel, Thompson Creek, County Line, and Lovewell. He was also a longtime member of Corinth Free Will Baptist Church. He pastored for 56 years before health issues caused him to retire and move in with his son in June of 2018. He knew he was having some memory issues, and he said he did not want to say anything wrong from behind the sacred desk. He never was what many would call a dynamic preacher, but he loved the Lord, he loved the Word, and he loved people. He was always willing to preach to the smaller congregations, even if there was only one, because they needed to hear the gospel as much as the larger congregations. He loved people and was loved by all who knew him. Anyone who knew him knew he was a cut-up and liked to carry on; he just wanted to see you smile and make you laugh.

He retired from Hood Industries in Beaumont, MS having worked there as a Heavy Machine Operator for 40 years, through many changes in ownership.

He never required the finer things in life, he lived simply and humbly in service to his Lord and in ministry to his many family members and friends.

Until he was no longer able to drive, he kept the roads hot visiting family, friends, and church members. If you were in need and he knew about it, he would always try to help if he had the means to do so.

He always said "Don't have any part of my funeral on Wednesday or Sunday. I don't want anyone to use my funeral as an excuse to miss church."

Marshall was always a true example of what it means to be a Christian, a man of God, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
