Marrell C. (Crane) Rigney's Obituary

Visitation for Mrs. Marrell C. Rigney, 95, of Chicora, MS will be held from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Friday, February 4, 2022 at Freeman Funeral Home, 1305 Skyland Drive, Waynesboro, MS. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, February 5, 2022 at Freeman Funeral Home in Waynesboro, MS with Rev. Carey Smith and Rev. Mitchell Smith officiating. Interment will be in Winchester Cemetery in Waynesboro, MS.

Born on November 29, 1926, a hardworking woman of many talents, she was in her element working with  the public in retail sales.  First at Carps, then manager of Kenwin's Dress shop. Later after moving back to Wayne County she would begin working at Bedsoles Department Store.  Her greatest accomplishment in the work force was certainly the 18 years she worked for Thomas, Walker, Lacey Company very successfully managing T-W-L in Waynesboro.

She was a member of Chicora Baptist Church. Her love for God, her husband and her family would later in life see her through many years of taking care of her husband through the challenges of his having Alzheimer's and the isolation it brought. She faithfully stood by him, being a fine example of what love and faith can accomplish. She was a best friend to her daughters and loved them unconditionally as they did her.

She passed from this world into her heavenly home January 31, 2022 at her residence in Chicora, MS surrounded by her daughters. She is preceded in death by parents, Henry Lafayette Crane and Mary Ida Sykes Crane; brothers, Wyman (Osteen) Crane, Henry Lee (Ouida) Crane, Tony (Mandalynne) Crane, Earl (Lucille) Crane, Cleavy Crane; sisters, Eliza (William) Hamilton, Myrtle (Robert) McCary, Dean (JM) Summers, Allie Dean Crane; her loving husband of 65 years, Franklin Creel Rigney; grandsons Fred Lynn Frith, Jr. Kenny Mashburn and Cary Mashburn; great grand daughter Kayla Green. She is survived by her sister in law, Barbara Crane of Laurel, MS; daughters, Mary Ann (Ray) Mills of Waynesboro MS, Julia Elaine (Fred Lynn "Butch") Frith, Sr. of Magnolia Springs, AL, Brenda Kay (Paul) Childress of Loxley, AL, Glenda Marcell (William " Red") Davis of Waynesboro MS. 12 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and 14 great great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association (alz.org) in loving memory of Mrs. Marrell C. Rigney.
