Mrs. Marie Burgess, 87, of Waynesboro, MS passed from this life Thursday, August 14, 2025, at her residence. She was born in Millry, AL on Monday, November 8, 1937, to the late Frank Lee Tate, Sr. and Zoey Crane Tate. She was a member of Buckatunna Free Will Baptist Church. She worked as a supervisor at Wells Lamont and later retired from NECO.

Mrs. Burgess is preceded in death by her husband, John Allen Burgess; parents, Frank Lee Tate, Sr. and Zoey Crane Tate; two brothers, Frank Tate, Jr. and Roy Tate; two sisters, Hazel Sells and Bertha Beech. She is survived by two sons, Edward Allen Burgess (Patricia) of Collins, MS and Terry Joe Burgess, Sr. (Jessie L.) of Buckatunna, MS; daughter, Janie Burgess Fick (Richard "Dickie") of State Line, MS; brother, Winston Tate (Jane) of Jackson, AL; sister, Glendine Miller (Odell) of Oxford, MS; seven grandchildren, Amanda Street (Neal), Travis Burgess (Chelcie), Taylor Burgess (Jasmine), Leslie Holder (Mark), Kelly Dykes (Phillip), T. J. Burgess (Andy), and Justin L. Burgess (Angie); 14 great grandchildren, Caleb (Abby), Brent, Jack, Sophie, Halle, Reaghan, Caroline, Carson, Jett, Ellie, Emmy, Andrew, John, and James; a host of nieces and nephews.

Visitation for Mrs. Burgess will be held from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, Monday, August 18, 2025, at Freeman Funeral Home, 1305 Skyland Drive, Waynesboro, MS. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, August 18, 2025, at Freeman Funeral Home in Waynesboro, MS with Rev. Billy Trull and Rev. Larry Reynolds officiating. Interment will be in Buckatunna Free Will Baptist Cemetery in Buckatunna, MS.
