Mrs. Lola V. Newsome, 85, of Millry, AL passed from this life Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Laurel, MS on Friday, June 14, 1940, to the late Robert and L. V. Touchstone. She was a member of Sandridge Church of God. She retired as a seamstress for the Solomon Brothers Factory.
Mrs. Newsome is preceded in death by her husband, Austin Newsome; parents, Robert L. V. Touchstone; brother, O. D. Touchstone; sister, Irene Waite. She is survived by her step son, Jerry Newsome (Elaine) of Buckatunna, MS; step granddaughter, Kim Newsome of Dahlonega, GA; step great granddaughter, Alexis Newsome; two nephews, Roy E. Waite, Jr. of Thomasville, AL and Ronald Waite (Debra) of Millry, AL. “Granny Lola” had three special great nieces and two great nephews that she helped raise as her own grandchildren, Kristen Thompson (Peanut), Erin Waite, Carly McCarty, Joey Waite, and Chason Waite; a host of other nieces, nephews, and other family members.
Visitation for Mrs. Newsome will be held from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at Freeman Funeral Home, 1305 Skyland Drive, Waynesboro, MS. Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 PM Thursday, June 11, 2026 with a one hour lie-in-state prior to service at Sandridge Church of God, 2679 Britton Lige Road, Millry, AL 36558 with Rev. Shawn Hales officiating. Interment will be in Sandridge Cemetery in Millry, AL. The family would like to thank Southern Care Hospice, Dr. Megan Carpenter, and caregiver Erin Waite.
