Laris Kay Bishop's Obituary

Laris Kay Bishop was born on October 9, 1947, in Laurel MS and passed from this life on Saturday, December 28, 2024. She lived in Pinellas Park, FL through her high school years. After moving to Laurel, she continued her education at Jones College and University of Southern Mississippi where she earned her teaching degree. She taught twenty (20) years in the Wayne County School District which included fourteen (14) years teaching deaf children. She then taught two (2) years at the Ellisville State School Workshop in Bay Springs, MS. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where she enjoyed working with the youth and children, singing in the choir, and taking trips with the Senior Adults (NOAH). She moved to Laurelwood Community Living Center in January 2020 where she was wonderfully happy.

Laris Bishop is preceded in death by her mother, Leatrice Reynolds Bishop and her father, Raymond C Bishop. She is survived by her daughters: Tallulah Fox, Chelsea and Rane Bishop; former foster daughters: Sonya Welborn Jones and Renee Byrd. She is survived by her grandchildren: Daniel, Timmy, & Audriana Windham, Lee & Logan Bishop, William & M'Kenzie Jones, and a host of great grandchildren. She is survived by special, loving cousins: Judy Luke (Leroy), Pam Roberts (Billy), Allison Luke & daughter, Sydney Kaye; Paxton (Zachary) Johnson and sons, Luke & Myles Slate; John Roberts (Deidre) and children, Eli Roberts, Ginny Lynn & John Dement; Brandon Roberts (Micah) and children, Dacey, Brandilee & Kelby. She is survived by close, special friends: Jelene Ratcliffe, Jason Ratcliffe, Julie Ratcliffe, Karen Beard (Darrell), Silvia Carlisle (Jimmy Ray), and Brenda Loper.

Pallbearers will be Leroy Luke, Jason Ratcliffe, Jonathan Roberts, Luke Chandler, Mike Jones, Jason Loper, Timmy Roney, & Mike Shoemake. Honorary Pallbearers include Victor Lee, Delton Perry, & Brandon Roberts. Bro. Scott Hilton and Bro. Kent Miller will officiate.

Visitation will be held at Freeman Funeral Home in Waynesboro MS Tuesday, December 31, 2024, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. The Funeral will be held at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, at 11:00 AM with the body being placed in the church at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow in church cemetery.
