James "Barkley" Bradley's Obituary

Mr. James "Barkley" Bradley, 78, of Millry, AL passed from this life Thursday, February 1, 2024, at his home in Millry, AL. He was born in Laurel, MS on Wednesday, August 8, 1945, to the late W. Agnew Bradley and Ola Dyess Bradley. Barkley served in the United States Army from March 22, 1966, to March 5, 1969, active duty stationed in Kaiserslautern, Germany. He was a member of Minerva Memorial United Methodist Church. He retired as a Truck Driver for Wayne Manufacturing Company (Blanket Factory) in 1985 and came home to take care of his mother after his father's death and to look after his timber and property. He served on the Board of Directors for the Washington County Farmer's Federation for 32 years. In 1989 he became one of the founding members of Red Creek Volunteer Fire Department located in Red Creek, AL just above his home. He leased the property to the Red Creek VFD to build the fire station on. He was an active member until his health failed. He remained an inactive member until his death. Last December he sold the two acres of land the Red Creek VFD that the building sets on to make sure the department continued to remain in service to better serve his community. He loved to do woodworking. He cut his own cedar trees down and had them cut into lumber. He built swings, baskets, bird feeders, and cedar chest from the cedar lumber he helped cut himself. He loved photography and took pictures at many weddings and engagement pictures to put in the newspaper. He loved photography so much he built his own dark room so he could develop his own photos. He loved riding in the woods and looking at his pine and hardwood timber. He also enjoyed the great outdoors and loved deer hunting and fishing with friends and family. Barkley is preceded in death by his parents, W. Agnew Bradley and Ola Dyess Bradley; brother, W. A. Bradley, Jr. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Sherri Mashburn Bradley; sisters, Sue B. Carlise, both of Millry, AL, Sylvia B. Brister of Pascagoula, MS; Sister-In-Law, Sandra H.
