Obituary

Hilda Cochran, age 84, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on July 21, 2026. She was born on May 29, 1942, in Wayne County, Mississippi. A proud Wayne County native, Hilda later made her home in Kingsland, Georgia, where she spent many happy years surrounded by the love of her family.

Hilda dedicated much of her working life to Wells Lamont and the retail industry. She was admired for her hard work, kind heart, and unwavering devotion to those she loved.

A woman of deep and abiding faith, Hilda’s greatest joys were her relationship with the Lord, her family, and tending to her beautiful gardens. She found peace in watching things grow and took great pride in caring for her flowers and plants. Her gentle spirit, loving heart, and steadfast faith were an inspiration to everyone who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Baygents and Gladys Douglas; her stepmother, Rachel Baygents; her beloved husband, Ervin Cochran Sr.; her son, Harold Clark; her daughter, Lisa Cochran; her grandson, James Clark; her sister, Margaret Scoggins (Paul); and her brothers, Alton Baygents (Mary) and Wallace Baygents.

She leaves to cherish her memory her loving children: Rhonda Alaniz and Kellie Cochran, both of Kingsland, Georgia; Ervin Cochran Jr. (Darlene); and Christie Wilson (Kevin) of Clyo, Georgia.

She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Justin Alaniz (Brandi), Nathan Alaniz, Nicole Henning, Zachary Cochran, Sierra Nguyen (Vinh), Jonathan Cochran (Kelsey), Bailee Grace Wilson, Lincoln Cochran, and Reagan Cochran.

Hilda was also blessed with eleven cherished great-grandchildren: Charles Alaniz, Morrison Alaniz, Cadence Alaniz, Silas Alaniz, Matthew Nguyen, Madeline Nguyen, Marshall Cochran, Hailee Cochran, Olivia Cochran, Miles Cochran, and Miles Henning who brought immense joy to her life.

She is also survived by her brother, Jesse Baygents (Maryann); her sisters, Dola Ard (Charlie) and Debbie Roberts (Jimmy); along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Hilda’s life was a beautiful example of faith, love, strength, and selflessness. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, compassion, and unwavering devotion to her family. Though she will be deeply missed, her loved ones find comfort in knowing she is now at peace in the presence of her Savior.

Visitation for Mrs. Cochran will be held from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Freeman Funeral Home, 1305 Skyland Drive, Waynesboro, MS 39367. A Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, July 26, 2026, at White House Cemetery in Waynesboro, MS with Jessie Baygents officiating. Interment will be in White House Cemetery in Waynesboro, MS. Forever loved, forever missed, and forever in our hearts.

“Well done, good and faithful servant.” - Matthew 25:23
