Mr. George Ira Cooley, Sr., 89, of Waynesboro, MS passed from this life Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at Wayne General Hospital in Waynesboro, MS. He was born in Waynesboro, MS on Friday, August 11, 1933 to the late Julius Percy Cooley, Sr. and Jessye Kelly Cooley. Mr. Cooley served in the United States Army and was a Veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was retired as a production supervisor with B P Oil Company. Mr. Cooley is preceded in death by his parents, Julius Percy Cooley, Sr. and Jessye Kelly Cooley; son, George I. Cooley, Jr.; two brothers, J. P. Cooley, Jr., Robert E. Cooley. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Jean Cooley; son, Michael Cooley (Patti), both of Waynesboro, MS; daughter-in-law, Becky Cooley of Holley Springs, NC; three grandchildren, Eric Cooley (Jen) of Peachtree City, GA, Jessye Smith (Matt) of Holley Springs, NC, Seth Cooley of Waynesboro, MS; five great grandchildren, Matthew, Lauren, Ashley, Meghan, and Maddison. Visitation for Mr. Cooley will be held from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, Saturday, December 31, 2022 at Freeman Funeral Home, 1305 Skyland Drive in Waynesboro, MS. A Graveside Service will be held at 1:30 PM Saturday, December 31, 2022 at White House Cemetery in Waynesboro, MS with Rev. Mitchell Smith officiating. Interment will be in White House Cemetery in Waynesboro, MS.
