Mr. Frank Allen Johnston, 77, of Waynesboro, MS, departed this life Tuesday, December 31, 2024,  in Waynesboro. He was born there Monday, March 24, 1947, to the late Margaret P. and Exo C. Johnston. Following graduation from Waynesboro Central High School in 1965 where he lettered in football, basketball, and baseball, Mr. Johnston attended the University of Southern Mississippi on a football scholarship. Mr. Johnston played running back for Southern Miss from 1966-69, and also earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Southern Miss in 1970. He went to work after graduation as a lumber trader for North Pacific Lumber Company, subsequently Southern Mississippi Trading, LLC, back in Waynesboro. Mr. Johnston retired as President and a member of its Board of Directors from Southern Mississippi Trading in 2016 after 45 years. As a lifelong resident of Waynesboro, Mr. Johnston participated in church and different community affairs. He was a deacon at First Baptist Church of Waynesboro and served on various committees and in other capacities through the years. Mr. Johnston was also a frequent volunteer at and served on the board of directors of Samaritan's Closet & Pantry. During his leisure time, Mr. Johnston enjoyed golf at the Waynesboro Country Club and hunting with friends. Mr. Johnston is preceded in death by his parents, Margaret P. and Exo C. Johnston, and two brothers, Don P. Johnston and Jerry Johnston. He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Hope J. Johnston of Waynesboro, MS; two sons, James Troy Johnston (Erin) of Ridgeland, MS and Ryan Casey Johnston (Jennifer) of Vancleave, MS; two granddaughters, Caroline Rose Johnston and Margaret Ann Johnston; and nieces and nephews, Dana West Cooley, Judd Johnston, Rick Johnston, Cliff Johnston, Lora DePriest, and Perk Johnston. Visitation for Mr. Johnston will be held from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, Monday, January 6, 2025, at First Baptist Church, Waynesboro, MS. Funeral Services will be held at the church following visitation at 11:00 AM Monday, January 6, 2025, with Dr. Steve Smith officiating. Interment will be in Shubuta Cemetery in Clarke County, MS. Pallbearers are Charlie Britton, Dale Bowen, Tony Bowen, Terry Heathcock, Geary Jackson, Mike Walker. Honorary Pallbearers are Ronnie Brewer, Arthur Busby, John Frank Clark, Bob Cooley, Jimmy Gardner, Butch Jenkins, Gary Sigler, Vince Smith.
