Mrs. Doris Louise Garland Thornton, 84, of Fruitdale, AL, passed from this life Sunday, January 5, 2025 at  in Fruitdale, AL. She was born in Chatom, AL on Tuesday, January 30, 1940 to Aster Carpenter and Audry Caten. She was a member of Yellow Pine Baptist Church.  She worked as a Home Health Aid. Mrs.Thornton is preceded in death by her father and mother, Aster Carpenter and Audry Caten; two brothers, AJ Carpenter and HC Carpenter; three sisters, Velma Thornton, Alberta Garland, Beatrice Thompson; her first husband Charlie Garland; and second husband, Gene Thornton. She is survived by her daughter, Joan Deese(George); son, Benjie Garland(Sally); daughter Nina Brown(Kevin); son, Mark Garland(Kelly); brother, Russel Carpenter; seven grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren. Serving as pallbearers are Chris Deese, Jody Skipper, Ryan Skipper, Ben Garland, Joshua Garland, Hunter Garland, Lane Brown, and Peyton Brown. Funeral Services will be held at Yellow Pine Baptist Church on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at 2:00 PM, with Bro. Elvis Hennis and Bro. Wade Turner officiating. Interment will be in the Yellow Pine Cemetery in Washington County, AL. In leiu of flowers please make donations to Yellow Pine Baptist Church.
