Daisy Louise (Ryals) Mills's Obituary

Daisy Louise Ryals Mills of Chicora, MS, went to be with Jesus on Monday, January 8, 2024.  She was born on November 27, 1940, in Mobile, AL, to the late James Wesley Ryals and the late Ebie Nell Kirkland Williams.  Daisy grew up in Mobile, AL, where she met and married the love of her life James Marion Mills.  After accompanying James to various locations while he served in the Coast Guard, they later moved to Waynesboro, MS.  Daisy became a mother and achieved her dream of staying at home and rearing both of her children.  Daisy later moved to Chicora with her loving husband and worked side by side with him to establish a plant nursery, a blueberry farm, and one of the country's most notable rose growing businesses.  Daisy perfected the art of not only grafting roses but also growing them.  She has hosted rose enthusiasts from all over the country who have come to visit the beautiful rose garden at K & M Nursery.  The roses that Daisy grafted and then grew can be viewed  in the gardens at both the University of Southern Mississippi and at Mississippi State University.  Her roses can also be seen at Bellingrath Gardens in Mobile, AL, and the American Rose Society in Shreveport, LA, as well as in other gardens all across the United States.  Both Daisy and James enjoyed attending rose shows and exhibiting roses together and have won numerous awards with their beautiful roses. Furthermore, Daisy's love and passion for roses is enshrined in a beautiful pink rose hybridized by Fred Wright named Daisy Louise.  In addition, Daisy enjoyed spending time with and loving on her pets, her plants, her family and her friends.  Daisy is preceded in death by her parents J. Wesley Ryals and Ebie Nell Kirkland Williams and her granddaughter Erin Elizabeth Knight.  She is survived by her husband James Marion Mills of Chicora, MS; her brother James Wesley Ryals, Jr. (Carolyn) of Hickory, NC; her son Russell Wade Mills (Rosemary) of Dallas, TX; her daughter Stephanie Mills Knight (Michael) of Chicora, MS; her granddaughter Casey Alexandra Clapp (Andrew) of Summerville, SC; and her two great grandchildren Naomi Rae Edwards and Rowan Octavius Clapp both of Summerville, SC.  Daisy's life was also made sweeter by being surrounded by Elia Diego, Megan Evans, and Elizabeth Sturdivant who were not only employees but devoted friends whom she considered to be a part of her family. Visitation for Mrs. Mills will be held from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM, Thursday, January 11, 2024 at Freeman Funeral Home, 1305 Skyland Drive, Waynesboro, MS. A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, January 11, 2024 at Mills Cemetery in Buckatunna, MS with Rev. Mitchell Smith officiating.
