Mr. Chester Jackson "C. J." Smith, 86, of Laurel, MS passed from this life Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at Asbury Hospice House in Hattiesburg, MS. He was born in Wayne County, MS on Wednesday, March 25, 1936 to the late Warren and Janie Eunie May Smith. Mr. Smith was a Veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of Free Will Fellowship Church. He worked as a Self-Employed Farmer. Mr. Smith is preceded in death by his parents, Warren and Janie Eunie May Smith; daughter, Effie Jane Sumrall; stepson, Tony Overstreet; four brothers, Emmitt Smith, David Smith, Willie Smith, George Smith; two sisters, Ethel Mae Harrison, Alene Cherry. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Mary Louise Smith of Laurel, MS; son, George Thomas Smith (Laura Denise) of Seminary, MS; daughter, Gladys May Dearmond of Rose Hill, MS; stepson, Dwayne Overstreet (Kathryn) of Laurel, MS; granddaughter, Darla N. Overstreet of Gulfport, MS; three sisters, Marie Walters, Irene Cherry, Olean Smith, all of Waynesboro, MS; a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren. Visitation for Mr. Smith will be held from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Friday, November 25, 2022 at Freeman Funeral Home, 1305 Skyland Drive, Waynesboro, MS 39367. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, November 26, 2022 at McLain Chapel Assembly of God Church, 698 Strengthford Cooley Road, Waynesboro, MS 39367 with Rev. Harry Cherry and Rev. Stephen Hartman officiating. Interment will be in David L. Smith Cemetery in Waynesboro, MS.
