Mrs. Betty Jean (Overstreet) Busby, 87, of Strengthford, MS went to be with our Lord on Friday, August 21, 2026, at ComfortCare Nursing Center in Laurel, MS. She was born in Strengthford, MS on Monday, January 2, 1939, to the late Curtis and Lizzie Overstreet.

   Mrs. Betty attended Pleasant Grove and Strengthford schools. She worked at Wells Lamont and then received her cosmetology license and worked in a small beauty shop at her home. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, and loved sharing her quilts with her family. Betty's greatest joy was cooking for her children, grandchildren, and anyone that visited her.

   Betty taught Sunday School and V.B.S. She was a faithful and devoted member of Strengthford First Baptist Church for many years. She had an unwavering faith and was an outspoken witness for the Lord.

   Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Alton "Bud" Busby; parents, Curtis and Lizzie Overstreet; Son-In-Law, Lonnie Ray Reynolds; grandson, Lonnie Ray Reynolds, II; two sisters, Barbara Combs and Ruby Busby. She is survived by her two sons, Joe Allen (Cindy) Busby and Danny Patrick (Rachel) Busby, both of Strengthford, MS; daughter, Sheila Busby Reynolds of Laurel, MS; grandchildren, Joanna Marie Busby (Garrett) Ashley of Opelika, AL, Sheila Danielle Busby (Jonathan) Kelly of Laurel, MS, Sally Danise Sanders of Flora, MS, and Samantha Jo Busby of Jackson, MS; two great grandchildren, Della Rene Kelly of Laurel, MS and Dawson Cooper Sanders of Flora, MS; two sisters, Daisy Carlisle and Dorothy Overstreet, both of Strengthford, MS; a host of nieces and nephews.

   Visitation for Betty will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Sunday, August 23, 2026, at Strengthford First Baptist Church, 1663 Salem Road, Laurel, MS. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, August 24, 2026, with a lie-in-state one hour prior to services at Strengthford First Baptist Church in Laurel, MS with Rev. Bobby Boutwell and Rev. Ken Walters officiating. Interment will be in Strengthford Baptist Cemetery in Wayne County, MS. Pallbearers are Garrett Ashley, Jonathan Kelly, Albert Busby, Martin Busby, J. C. Carlisle, and Jimmy Ray Carlisle.
