1Sg Kevin R. Hendry's Obituary

1SG Kevin Rufus Hendry, 70, of Waynesboro, MS was reunited with his Lord and Savoir Jesus Christ on Friday, February 21, 2025, at his residence. He was born in Gulfport, MS on Wednesday, January 19, 1955, to the late Hazel Mae and Rufus Wilson Hendry.

His unwavering faith and mission to bring as many to Jesus was remarkable. He was a good man who would do for others in need. His skills "as a shade tree" mechanic whether it was a diesel turbo or a 2-cylinder engine were amazing, there wasn't anything he couldn't repair. Even if it was yard equipment, chain saw and bush hedgers he could do it all. He could repair household appliances, toilets, plumbing fixtures, you name it he could do it. If it was broken, he could fix it!! When not working on something broken, he enjoyed the outdoors by spending time hunting and fishing.

In his younger days he enlisted and joined the 82nd Airborne, he was an infantry soldier through and through. He retired from the United States Army, as a 1st. Sgt., HHC, III Corp., Fort Hood, TX after serving for 22 years, and was on the SGM selection list upon retirement.

Mr. Hendry is preceded in death by his parents, Hazel Mae and gunnery Sgt. Rufus Wilson Hendry. Left to cherish and celebrate his life are his loving wife of 34 years, Karen Cecilia Hendry of Waynesboro, MS; daughter, Melissa Hendry Kerns of Parkersburg, WV; stepson, Dustin Eugene Rider (Sara) of Belleville, IL; three brothers, David Wilson Hendry (Cynthia) of Jasper, GA, Michael Myles Hendry of Wiggins, MS, and Ronald Lance Hendry (Genie) of Biloxi, MS; sister, Cathy Jo Hendry (Michael Aust) of Blacksburg, VA; a host of grandchildren; nephew, Brandon Hendry (McKinsey) of Saucier, MS; niece, Amanda D'Angelo (Matthew) of Biloxi, MS; great nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers please donate to a charity of your choice in his name. Mr. Hendry will always remain in the hearts of his loved ones and will be deeply missed. The family ask those that loved him to continue to spread the word of his Lord Jesus Christ. Until we meet again.
