Mr. Leland A. Manning, 86, of Waynesboro, MS passed from this life Saturday, January 5, 2019 at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg. He was born in Wayne County on Monday, November 21, 1932 to Lee F. Manning and Oree Clark Manning. He served in the US Army. He was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, and was a member of the United Methodist Men organization of Wayne County. Mr. Leland retired after more than 40 years as a Butcher. In addition, he also conducted a Wayne County Jail Ministry for 19 years and served as a counselor at the Alcohol/Drug Center. He is preceded in death by his father, Lee F. Manning and mother, Oree Clark Manning; and brother, Johnny Manning. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Jeanette McRae Manning, Waynesboro, MS; son, Gary Manning (Penny), Waynesboro, MS; daughter, Kathy Smith, Waynesboro, MS; 2 sisters, Frances Burton, Waynesboro, MS and sister, Nelma Manning; 3 grandchildren, Jake Manning, Waynesboro, MS, Trey Smith, Waynesboro, MS, Keri Smith, Daphne, AL; 4 great grandchildren, Breland Manning, Cayden Gray, Payton Smith, Shelby Smith. Visitation for Mr. Leland will be held from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Sunday, January 6, 2019 at Freeman Funeral Home, 1305 Skyland Drive, Waynesboro, MS. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, January 07, 2019 at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, 2 Jones Walker Loop Road, Waynesboro, MS with Rev. Charlie Laird officiating. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Grove Church Cemetery.
