Dorothy Land Mahaffey

Mrs. Dorothy Land Mahaffey, 100, of Waynesboro, MS passed from this life Friday, June 29, 2018 at her residence. She was born in Melvin, AL on Monday, April 29, 1918 to Robert Land and Mamie Alva McGowan Land. She was a lifelong member of Melvin United Methodist Church and attended Waynesboro First United Methodist Church for the past few years. Mrs. Dorothy attended the University of Alabama and remained a lifelong Alabama fan. Mrs. Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Mahaffey; father, Robert Land and mother, Mamie Alva McGowan Land; 4 brothers, James Robert Land, Charles Land, Ernest Land, John Land; sister, Margaret Haney. She is survived by 3 daughters, Mary Alva Seymour (Robert), Leavenworth, KS, Bibba Hertz (Bruce), Waynesboro, MS, Ann Briggs, Meridian, MS; 6 grandchildren, Meredith S. Lang, Amanda Seymour, Karen Gunn Johnson, John P. "Jay" Gunn, Katherine Collier, Polly Briggs; 5 Great Grandchildren; several Nieces and Nephews. Visitation for Mrs. Dorothy will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Sunday, July 1, 2018 at Freeman Funeral Home, 1305 Skyland Drive, Waynesboro, MS. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, July 2, 2018 at Melvin United Methodist Church, 9534 Melvin Road, Melvin, AL with Rev. Patricia Grindle and Rev. David Hill officiating. A Lie-In-State will be held 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM Monday at the church prior to the Funeral. Interment will be in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery in Melvin. The family wishes to offer a special Thank You to her caregivers- Gail Leverette, Shashonia, Pickens, Faye McFarland, Lillie Meardry, Patricia Walley, Almetia Clark, Janaa Taylor and Debra Johnson.
