He was a member of First United Methodist Church, a Veteran of WWII in the US Navy, a Shriner, retired after 40 years with Exxon, and an avid fisherman and hunter. He was preceded in death by his Father, Cliff Atkinson, Mother, Vinadra Atkinson; 8 Sisters. Mr. Atkinson was survived by his Wife, Joyce Atkinson of Waynesboro; Daughter, Michelle Gatlin of Hot Springs, AR; Granddaughter, Carla Gatlin Hilland of Bryan, TX; 2 Great Grand Children, Jacob Hilland and Ashlyn Hilland; Numerous Nieces, Nephews and other Relatives. Visitation for Mr. Atkinson will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Saturday, November 21, 2009 in the Parlor of Freeman Funeral Home in Waynesboro. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, November 22, 2009 from the Chapel of Freeman Funeral Home in Waynesboro with Rev. Paul McDonald officiating. Interment will be in New Hope Cemetery, Waynesboro, MS.
