Julia "Judy" Pearl Hulsey Obituary

Julia "Judy" Pearl Henry Hulsey, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2024, at Asbury Hospice, surrounded by her loving family. Born on May 14, 1941, Judy lived a life filled with love, laughter, and service to others.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew Jackson Henry and Eunice Busby Henry, her devoted husband of 61 years, Herbert Tolar Hulsey, her sister, Betty Henry Tiner (Howard), and her brother, Julious Edward Henry (Naomi). She is survived by her sisters, Annette Henry West (The Late L.J. West) and Barbara Henry Holley (Tommy), her children, Debbie Myers (Mike), Wanda James (Eric "Poncho"), Keith Hulsey (Jennifer), and Scott Hulsey (Kelly Hughes), as well as 6 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly.

Throughout her career, Judy worked in various positions in the medical field, with a particularly fond memory of her time working with Dr. Arthur Wood. Many in the community also knew her as the owner and operator of Ideal Furniture on Court Street in Waynesboro.

A lifelong member of Calvary Baptist Church, Judy's faith was an integral part of her life. She taught multiple ages and classes, but her favorite was teaching first-grade Sunday School. Her commitment to her church extended beyond the classroom, as she volunteered at Samaritan's Closet and taught at Vacation Bible School each summer. One of her proudest moments was going on a mission trip to Honduras.

Judy was an avid seamstress, and there was always a revolving door of people who loved to visit her for clothing alterations. She was also renowned for her culinary skills, especially her coconut cake, cornbread dressing, and chicken and dumplings. No one ever left her home without being offered something to eat! When she wasn't sewing or cooking, Judy enjoyed writing poems, studying the Bible, and talking on the phone (her favorite pastime).

Judy and Herbert's love story spanned over six decades, and they enjoyed playing dominos and card games with friends. Judy had a special way of offering advice and opinions that were as honest as they were hilarious. Bless her heart, she always meant well and her unique blend of humor and sincerity left a lasting impression on everyone lucky enough to know her.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Freeman Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will take place at Freeman Funeral Home on Thursday, April 18, 2024, at 11:00 am with Dr. DeJuan Walley, Mrs. Kim Tynes, and Dr. Arthur E. Wood, III officiating with interment following at Waynesboro Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Chris Stallings, Blake Hulsey, Jack Rice, Drew Hulsey, Wes Hester, and Jerry Hopkins.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Children's Ministry or the foreign mission fund at Calvary Baptist Church in Waynesboro, MS (615 South Street).

We can rest assured that Judy is now in her eternal home with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, likely already hemming the angels' robes and offering them a slice of her heavenly coconut cake.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
