Judge Shannon Clark Obituary

Judge Shannon Clark born November 6, 1934, in Waynesboro, MS, the youngest son of Frank Clark and Maude Reynolds Clark. Judge Clark, as he is affectionately known, lived almost his entire life in Waynesboro. He earned degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi (1955) and the University of Mississippi School of Law (1958).  He served three years in the United States Army Reserves after graduation from Law School, obtaining the rank of Captain before being honorably discharged.  After law school, he practiced law in Laurel, MS, where he met and married Kathryn Hollingshead.  A 52 year marriage produced three children: John Mark Clark (1960), Michael Scott Clark (1962), and Geoffrey Miles Clark (1964). In 1962, they settled in Waynesboro with their children. In 1963, Shannon was elected County Attorney for Wayne County. In 1966, he was appointed by Gov. Ross Barnett as Chancery Judge for the newly created 19th Chancery Court District encompassing Wayne County and Jones County. Judge Clark served continuously as Chancery Judge until his retirement from the bench in 1994, after which he resumed private practice in Waynesboro in addition to serving as a Chancellor by appointment in cases around the State of Mississippi. He maintained an active law practice until 2022, and during this time he served for several years as attorney for the Wayne County Board of Education.
Despite his vast accomplishments as both a lawyer and Judge, Shannon was a humble man who enjoyed playing golf and fishing, as well as faithfully serving the church.  He was also a devoted fan and supporter of the athletic teams at Waynesboro Central High School and later Wayne County High School.
Judge Clark was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn, as well as his brothers, Reynolds and Donald. He is survived by his three sons, John Mark (Kay), Scott (Phyllis), and Geoffrey (Andrea); grand children, John Reynolds(Reyn)  Clark (Lauren), Bracy Alexander Clark (Megan), Rachael Kathryn Clark Albury (Jeff), Rebekah Hope Clark, Bethany Robinette (Taylor), Shannon Carter Clark, and Michael Paul Clark; and great grandchildren, William Gray Robinette, Connor Alan Robinette, Ellie Carter Robinette,  Cole Reynolds Clark, and Cave Alexander Clark.
