Johnny Carlisle Obituary

Johnny Carlisle, 76, Waynesboro, MS, died peacefully surrounded with family on Wednesday, June 8, 2022 following a reoccurring battle with cancer.  Johnny’s family is grateful to all of the medical providers that made it possible for him to have the best quality of life in his final days, including the dedicated Unity Hospice staff, and his caregiver Carol Younger.  He was one of ten children born May 10, 1946 in Butler, AL to Thomas and Edith Carlisle Sr.  Johnny’s family eventually migrated to Clara, Mississippi where he and his brothers were well known by Sherriff Marvin Farrior, for causing mischief around Wayne County.  As a young man, Johnny served in the US Army during Vietnam receiving the bronze star and an honorable discharge.   Following the army, he worked in the oil fields and occasional logging companies. Johnny and his first wife Patti, started their family in Clara, MS and have three children.  Johnny loved to hunt deer and turkeys and was known to be one of the best shots around.  You could often find him on the river, catching catfish.  Johnny’s children think of him as being the real “a country boy can survive”.  Above all, the thing that made him the most joyful was to make sure that his kids and the many friends he had, always had fun.  He has always possessed a non-judgmental quality and was willing to lend a hand whenever he could.

Survivors are his three children, Lori Carlisle (Willie), Oconto Falls, WI; Jason Carlisle (Krissie), Pulaski, WI; Chad Carlisle (Jeremy), Oconto Falls, WI; one brother, Wayne Carlisle, Clara, MS; three sisters, Polly G. McKinnie, Farmerville, LA; Judy Kay Huffman (Kirt), Elm Grove, LA; Linda Dorsey (Tony), Hattiesburg, MS; ten grandchildren, Alexandra, Ken, Kayla, Madison, Kya, Chase, Nola, Preston, Addison and Finley; one great grandchild, Karter; one sister-in-law, Bea Shoemaker; one brother-in-law, Frank Henderson; many nieces and nephews; very close family friends; Pat Little, Roger and Jackie Palmer.

Preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Robert (Mary) and Thomas “Tommy” Carlisle; three sisters, Alice Carlisle, Frances Henderson and Doris (Edward) Clark and brother-in-law, Billy George McKinnie.
