Mr. Gene Barnett, 84, a resident of Waynesboro, MS passed from this life on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel. He was born on Friday, August 4, 1933 in Wayne County to Grace Bradley Barnett and Chester Barnett. Mr. Barnett served in the United States Army and was a Veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and was retired as the owner and operator of Automotive Supply. Mr. Barnett is preceded in death by his parents, Grace and Chester Barnett; 2 brothers, James Barnette, Joe Barnett. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lona Pearl Barnett of Waynesboro; son, Charles Barnett of Waynesboro; daughter, Suzanne Hayes of Laurel; 2 grandchildren, Mandi Graves (Ron), Jamison Hayes (Beth) both of Laurel; 4 great grandchildren, Maggie Graves, Jace Graves, Bella Hayes, Kinzley Hayes. Pallbearers are; Mark Gordon, Jay Hutto, Nathan Bonner, Jody Ashley, Kenny Odom, Shane Barnett, Slade Barnett, and Ralph Smith. Visitation for Mr. Barnett will be held from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM, Monday, September 11, 2017 in the Parlor of Freeman Funeral Home in Waynesboro. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, September 11, 2017 from the Chapel of Freeman Funeral Home in Waynesboro with Rev. Dwight Smith and Arthur Lee Nored officiating. Interment will be in Waynesboro Cemetery, Waynesboro. In lieu of flowers memorials for Mr. Barnett may be made to Calvary Baptist Church or a charity of your choice.

It has been many years since we lived in Waynesboro but I have never forgotten the Barnetts. Gene and Lona Pearl welcomed us with open arms, both in the community and at Calvary Baptist Church. He will be greatly missed. Praying for comfort for the family.
