Services celebrating the life of Mrs. Maudie Mae Mercer Souder, 97, will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, September 15, 2013 from the Chapel of Freeman Funeral Home in Waynesboro, MS with Rev. Thomas Cochran and Rev. Jeff Revette officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery in Buckatunna, MS. Visitation for Mrs. Souder will be held from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, Saturday, September 14, 2013 in the Parlor of Freeman Funeral Home. Mrs. Maudie Mae Powe Mercer Souder was born on August 8, 1916 in Chicora, Mississippi. She went to be with her Heavenly Father on Thursday, September 12, 2013. There to greet her in Heaven were her parents, Tom Alexander and Hattie Powe; her son, Frankie Lee Mercer; her siblings, Medy Eloise Stevens, Tom Mack Powe, Walter A. Powe, Prentiss Earl Powe, Sue Mae Nordin, Elisha Powe, Frank Edward Powe, Samp Ellis Powe, Huey Cranford Powe as well as her granddaughter, Aleta Rachelle Mercer; great granddaughter, LeAnna Nicole Mercer. Left to cherish her precious memory are her two sons, Billie Mercer of Waynesboro, Prentiss Mercer (Joann) of Las Vegas, NV; two daughters, Freda Hutcherson (Jesse) of Buckatunna, Carolyn Cran (Billy) of Waynesboro.

Maudie was a kind and loving grandmother to twelve grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren. Her presence will be missed by those who had the privilege of knowing her.

Honoring Maudie as pallbeares will be Jerry Eugene Mercer, Lee Hutcherson, Tony Newsome, William M. Beasley, Jr., Rene` A. Oubre IV, Bryan Bertges, and Bradley Bertges.

Maudie's family would like to thank Dr. Todd Stokley, Dr. Wulf Hirschfield, and the entire staff of Wayne General Hospital for taking such special care of their loved one.
